Online-Lecture: Ukraine is on the Way to Achieving a Circular Economy

The economic model of the 20th century endangered the life of the planet and people, causing a number of economic, environmental and social problems. The use of natural resources, production methods, existing waste management mechanisms, and the type of consumption of goods require immediate changes. “Linear economy” has lost its position, yielding to the economy of the closed cycle, which is based on energy efficiency, resource saving, waste minimization, recycling of goods, reduction of harmful impact on the environment and increased production efficiency.

The implementation of the circular economy is one of the key components of the European Green Agreement, which will allow the EU countries and Ukraine, as candidate members, to achieve a fair, climate-neutral, resource-efficient and competitive economy.

Speaker: Annis Zakharova, sustainable development expert, member of the Association of Sustainable Development Experts, participant of the Ukraine Green Recovery Conference organized by the European Commission. She was part of the international expert group in the circular economy foresight project of Ukraine, which was implemented by UNIDO within the framework of the EU program “EU4Environment”.
