Radio Marathon: 1,000 New Super Friends for Children with Cancer

21/ 02/ 2022
On the occasion of International Childhood Cancer Day, Tabletochki Foundation in collaboration with Radio NV and ALLO hold a charity radio marathon that unites 1,000 people for regular help to children with cancer. The second National Charity Radio Marathon was held on 15-16 February on the occasion of International Childhood Cancer Day. That’s the day when people all over the world raise the question of childhood cancer awareness and express support for cancer-stricken children and their families. For two days in a row, at the Radio NV studio representatives, friends and ambassadors of the Foundation discussed the problems of childhood cancer in Ukraine, as well as the importance and convenience of regular help provision to cancer-stricken kids. Thanks to the Radio Marathon, the team of ‘super friends’, i.e. people who make their own regular contribution to the systemic fight against childhood cancer, got 1,000 new members who subscribed to regular donations of nearly ₴240,000. The partner of the event was ALLO Company that donated another ₴260,000 for the children to receive vital help of half a million hryvnias. Every year, there are about 1,000 new diagnosed cases of childhood cancer in Ukraine. In the developed countries, childhood cancer survival rate is 80% vs. 50% in Ukraine. It is regular help that allows children to receive essential treatment timely, which is extremely important since pauses in the treatment or administration of medications may bring to naught previously provided treatment. The treatment of childhood cancer requires a holistic and systemic approach. Cancer-stricken children require absolutely different care at every stage of treatment. Therefore, not only do monthly donations mean guaranteed medications, but also psychological and social support of the families, improvement of oncologic unit conditions all over Ukraine, training for health workers, national protection of children’s interests, rehabilitation and support of palliative patients. Systemic changes are made possible due to the support of ‘Super Friends’. “Cancer is the number one cause of child mortality worldwide. This is a serious challenge for Ukrainian medicine and the society in general. A challenge that requires a strategic approach. The government is not always able to cover all the needs of cancer-stricken children. Therefore, the Foundation’s donees, team and I are deeply grateful to our kind-hearted donors and generous partners. Owing to their regular support and donations, systemic changes in child oncology are made possible”, says Viacheslav Bykov, Executive Officer, Tabletochki CF.  “This is the second time ALLO national marketplace is supporting the Radio Marathon held by Tabletochki Charity Foundation to find new ‘Super Friends’ for systemic help to children. And for the second year in a row, I am impressed by how sensitive and responsive our nation is. I am happy that ALLO customers have joined the marathon, too. Due to our joint efforts with the Foundation and the radio station, the Foundation’s donees have received ₴500,000 of financial assistance to fight for their lives”, says Dmytro Derevytskyy, Chairman of the Board of Directors, ALLO.
