Online Lecture: Empathy Without Self-Sacrifice: How to Recognize Toxic Behavior and Maintain Healthy Boundaries. Date: 23 October2026. Time: 11:00 12:30. Language: Ukrainian. Place: Zoom. Being attentive to others, offering support, and understanding their emotions and needs are essential parts of healthy relationships. However, the line between empathy and excessive involvement can sometimes become blurred. We may take responsibility for others, agree to things that make us uncomfortable, try to rescue someone, or remain in interactions that leave us emotionally drained. How can we remain empathetic without sacrificing our own needs? How can we recognize when support turns into self-sacrifice and challenging communication becomes toxic? And how can we establish boundaries without feeling guilty? The EBA Psychological & Wellbeing Hub invites you to an online lecture dedicated to empathy, personal boundaries, and healthy interpersonal relationships. Key topics: What empathy is and how it differs from self-sacrifice Why we tend to take excessive responsibility for others How to recognize toxic patterns in relationships and communication How to identify when our personal boundaries are being crossed How to support others without emotionally exhausting ourselves Lecture Agenda. Empathy vs. Self-Sacrifice — understanding the difference between supporting others and neglecting our own needs The Rescuer Role — why we feel compelled to solve other peoples problems and take on unnecessary responsibility Toxic Interactions — warning signs to look out for and why they can be difficult to recognize Personal Boundaries — how to identify boundary violations and learn to protect our personal space Feelings of Guilt — why guilt arises when we say no or prioritize our own needs Healthy Empathy — how to be there for others without losing ourselves in the process What Participants Will Gain. A clearer understanding of the differences between empathy, helping others, and self-sacrifice The ability to recognize unhealthy and toxic patterns of interaction Greater awareness of personal reactions and the reasons why setting boundaries can be challenging Practical approaches to establishing and maintaining healthy personal boundaries Tools for preserving emotional energy and personal wellbeing when interacting with others Who Should Attend.
