The government will inform business representatives in advance about the date of additional quarantine restrictions

02/ 12/ 2020
This was announced by Viktor Liashko, Deputy Minister of Health of Ukraine - Chief State Sanitary Doctor of Ukraine during a meeting with the European Business Association on December 1. However, the exact dates of the restrictions and the degree of their severity are to be released by the Prime Minister of Ukraine in the coming days. At the meeting with Mr. Liashko, possible scenarios for the introduction of new quarantine restrictions were discussed. Currently, the Government has two quarantine plans, which will depend on the epidemiological situation and will have different economic consequences. Thanks to the weekend quarantine, the Government managed to reduce the mobility of the population at the weekend by almost 30%, which had a positive impact on the number of infections. As previously reported, Ukraine should receive 8 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine to vaccinate 4 million people (double vaccination) under the international initiative COVAX. The Ministry of Health is currently negotiating with potential vaccine manufacturers, as well as private logistics pharmaceutical companies for the rapid delivery of the vaccine to Ukraine. In total, the Ministry of Health expects 20 million people to be vaccinated, which requires 40 million doses. Accordingly, it is necessary to purchase another 32 million doses, which is planned to be done at the expense of budget funds in the amount of 2.6 billion, as well as from international donors. First of all, the risk groups will be vaccinated - medical workers, the military, who are on the front line, as well as people with concomitant chronic diseases. In the near future, the Ministry of Health will present a National Vaccination Plan. As for the most likely hard quarantine scenarios, for their part, businesses stressed that they should be early, logical, and clearly written so that each company can easily understand the rules to which it will fall. Mr. Liashko promised that the Government would inform business representatives in advance about the date of introduction of additional quarantine restrictions. Also, according to the Deputy Minister of Health, the government is ready to cooperate and promptly respond to comments and remarks from businesses after the publication of a document that will regulate the introduction of lockdown. What exactly will work and what will not during a potential lockdown? The government plans to restrict the operation of all establishments where there is interaction with visitors, except for grocery stores, pharmacies, and gas stations. Non-food shops will be closed, restaurants will be able to function in the regime of take-outs and deliveries, whereas hotels can only provide accommodation. In fact, the same as what we have now as a weekend quarantine. There is no question of the complete closure of the borders at the moment, foreigners will be able to enter and leave the country under the condition of a medical insurance policy covering the Covid-19 case and a negative test. The Ministry of Health also plans to expand the use of rapid tests, which will facilitate the travel of citizens and will be used in other cases to increase the number and speed of testing.   Be the first to learn about the latest EBA news with our Telegram-channel – EBAUkraine.
