The EBA position on vaccination in Ukraine

02/ 02/ 2021
The European Business Association informs that on January 29, 2021, the President of Ukraine signed a law on state registration of medicines authorized for emergency medical use that may accelerate the registration of vaccines or other medical immunobiological drugs for the specific prevention of COVID-19. According to the business, public health and safety should be one of the highest priorities of the government, especially, given the current coronavirus situation both in Ukraine and the world. And vaccination is an effective way to resist the further spread of the virus. Following the adopted Law, vaccines can be registered in Ukraine under the new special procedure for state registration of medicines authorized for emergency medical use. However, this applies only to vaccines that have obtained an emergency authorization by the competent authority of the United States, Great Britain, the Swiss Confederation, Japan, Australia, Canada, the Peoples Republic of China, India, or they have passed a centralized procedure conducted by the competent authority of the European Union or prequalification conducted by the World Health Organization. Registration of the Russian vaccine is forbidden. Meanwhile, the business urges the authorities to take a very conscious approach to the vaccine registration process as the lives of millions of people depend on it. It is not permissible to register a vaccine about which no full information is available. For example, there are concerns about one type of Chinese vaccine which efficacy and effectiveness are not completely proven by official data. Besides, the EBA community appeals to the President of Ukraine and the Government to foster the promptest availability of the vaccine in the country and launch a nationwide vaccination campaign as soon as possible, which, in fact, is already happening in developed countries. Surely, the community understands that a lot depends on market players in this context but prudent communication with international partners and a transparent approach to the issue is essential for the country to receive the vaccine in sufficient quantities and in the shortest time possible. According to preliminary information, Ukraine’s vaccination campaign should begin in February. We hope that there will be no disruptions in vaccination plans as this is not an issue that can be neglected. At the same time, the European Business Association calls on every Ukrainian to be conscious and responsible about your personal vaccination. Health is the greatest value of a person, and vaccination with a quality vaccine will help minimize the chances of disease. Also, we appeal to each EBA member company to exercise your social responsibility and help the authorities with communication on the importance of immunization of employees. It is necessary to inform your employees on the importance of vaccination explaining the possible pros and, if any, cons, or side effects. The life and health of every employee and every business are important to ensure the continuous work of our national economy. Therefore, we expect that each player will make a conscious choice in this matter!   Be the first to learn about the latest EBA news with our Telegram-channel – EBAUkraine.
