21/ 04/ 2023
Over the past month, there have been interesting news regarding the recovery plan and further development of Ukraine. In particular, the International Monetary Fund has approved a four-year program to support our country, and this is the first time in the entire history of the funds activity that a country in a state of war has been supported. Also, the World Bank gave its assessment that more than 400 billion dollars will be needed to restore Ukraine and identified the areas on which support will be focused, namely: energy infrastructure, deminization, social infrastructure, creation of conditions for business renewal. On April 21, 2023, during the “Business Forum: Taxes. Banks. Relocation. Marshals Plan focused on issues of restoration of Ukraine together with invited experts and guests. The event was moderated by Artur Nicevych, Interlegal partner, Chairman of the EBA Odesa Legal Committee. In particular, we talked about: modernization and integration of the country into the EU through post-war reconstruction, financing tools for business recovery, the most common ways to evade sanctions, risks for business in the occupied territories, compensation for losses from the Russian Federation, opportunities for business in the Ukrainian Black Sea regions after the war, privatization and rent in the ports of Odesa region. Also, Kateryna Morozova, Head of the EBA Southern Ukrainian office, was one of the speakers and highlighted the business situation in the South of Ukraine to show what challenges the regional business has faced and what changes have taken place since the beginning of the invasion of the russian federation into our country. Particular attention was paid to the key initiatives introduced by the EBA in this direction (GB4U, Investment Map of EBA, Ukraine Recovery Committee of EBA, White Paper of EBA, the Associations achievements in the logistics area, etc.). Therefore, for the successful reconstruction of Ukraine, a strategic vision of all processes in general, the active involvement of local communities and businesses for the implementation of specific projects on the ground, and, of course, sufficient financial resources that could help implement our ambitious plans are necessary. Help and support from international partners is also important. In turn, from the Ukrainian side, maximum transparency, openness, honesty and intolerance to corruption in this process are important - in order not to shake the faith and trust of donors in any way, - Ms. Morozova said during her speech. For reference: The following speakers also took part in the event: Andriy Borenkov, Head of Advisory BDO Ukraine, Viktoriya Masna, Director of the Department of MFI Programs, Yuliya Kurylo, lawyer, specialist in international sanctions law and compliance, Taras Dragan, leading lawyer at Interlegal, Ugo Poletti, founder and editor-in-chief of The Odessa Journal, Roman Hrygoryshyn, deputy head of the Odesa regional state administration, Oleksandr Slavskyi, head of the SPFU Regional Office for Odesa and Mykolaiv regions.
