What do Ukrainians need to know about seeking protection in Poland?

16/ 03/ 2022
According to the Polish Border Guard, about 1.8 million people have been forced to flee from Ukraine to Poland since the Russian invasion. Thus, we would like to share the following guide with those who decide to stay temporarily in Poland during the war. The guide contains a detailed explanation of the rules of entry, stay and work in Poland for citizens of Ukraine and other countries, as well as answers to the following questions: What is the procedure for crossing the border? What documents are needed to enter Poland? How to get a PESEL number and a trusted profile in Poland? What is the difference between temporary and international protection (refugees status)? What to do if the entry into Poland happened prior to February 24? How to get work permits and temporary residence permits for family members and relatives? The guide was prepared by Magdalena Świtajska and Katarzyna Sawicka from Wardyński & Partners Law Firm. We hope that the information will be useful to those who are seeking protection in Poland. At the same time, we continue to believe in Ukraine and its victory! The peace will prevail soon and no person will have to flee his/her country. Instead, people will return to Ukraine to help rebuild it and work for its bright future. Glory to the Heroes! Ukrainian version English version
