The Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Exporters of Grain agreed on the volumes of wheat exports

27/ 10/ 2017
Ukraine has an enormous potential for the agrarian sector and claims to be the world leader in grain production. According to some forecasts, grain exports may reach 60-70 million tons in 2020. This is reported by the European Business Association (EBA). Accordingly, the stability and predictability of grain exports is a priority for Ukraine and one of the main factors of both national and food security. For the seventh consecutive year, one of the main factors in preserving the balance between domestic grain consumption and export opportunities is the Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and business entities, which are exporters of grain. This year, the Memorandum was signed on July 28th, which in fact marked the beginning of a new marketing year. However, the harmonization of export indicators will be later in the framework of the annexes to the Memorandum. Thus, Annex I to the Memorandum on Agreed Wheat Exports was signed on October 18 (with the possibility of revision of the volumes of non-food wheat in January 2018) with the following agreed indicators: total wheat - 16.5 million tons; the export of food wheat - 10.7 million tons; exports of non-food wheat - 5.8 million tons. This document should ensure the predictability and flexibility of the market in the export of grain crops, which are important factors in the successful export business. This week, the EBA, representing leading players in the grain market, signed an Annex to the Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and the grain market players. In particular, at 2017/2018 the Ministry of Agriculture agreed on the volume of deliveries of wheat to foreign markets in the amount of 16.5 million tons, of which wheat will make 10.7 million tons, and non-food - 5.8 million tons, - said Irina Dushnik, Executive Director EBA Cereals and Oilseeds Committee. It was also agreed to review the marginal volumes of exports of non-food wheat in early 2018. This years export of wheat from Ukraine is almost at the level of last years indicators, she added. Recall that as of October 12, Ukraine exported 11.7 million tons of grain, which is 223 thousand tons less than at the same date last year. Source: Agravery
