International Online-Lecture: How to Become a Climate Positive Business?. Date: 16 September2021. Time: 14:00 15:30. Language: Ukrainian/English. Fee: free of charge for EBA members. Place: Will be online. Climate change has become one of the world’s most complex problems for humanity. The number of extreme weather events in Ukraine and around the world has significantly increased, causing social and economic losses. The approach of business as usual is the biggest danger in the changing times. The development of a low-carbon and climate-resilient economy in accordance with the Paris Climate Agreement is a priority for the EU as well as for Ukraine. The United Nations has called on countries to reaffirm their commitment to combating climate change and to join a zero-emission coalition. The Government of Ukraine has recently updated its national plan to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions by 65 percent by 2030. Reduction of greenhouse gas emissions over the next ten years will be achieved through a number of complex solutions, among which are modernization and upgrade of energy infrastructure and industrial enterprises; development of renewable energy sources; increase of share of renewable energy in total energy consumption; introduction of energy efficiency measures in more sectors of the economy; promotion of thermal modernization of buildings ramping up organic agriculture and resource-efficient agricultural practices; promotion of usage of electric vehicles and upgrading transport fleets; introduction more efficient waste management; acceleration of reforestation schemes and reforming forest management. These measures relate to all business sectors.
