Emotional Intelligence and Business

Consultant in advanced research in Jansen Capital Management Company At some level of business development – whether it is scaling or transforming it into a complex branched system with the inclusion of innovations, the usual methods of management and the organization of business processes are beginning to fail. Why does it happen? Because it is at these stages that the factor which could be called the personality or human factor begins to manifest itself. For example, the owner’s relationship with top managers may not only be very vague and hazy but also carry hidden threats. Moreover, these threats are often unconscious to the owner. The more complex the process, the more the unconsciousness begins to manifest itself among the participants of the management process. In this case, distortions in the management process are unavoidable. Some actions may create tensions and conflicts in the team, or even may imperceptibly bring down the business. Naturally, at this level, it is necessary to engage emotional intelligence. The competencies of emotional intelligence are hidden deep motivations, which ultimately form goals – both in business and in everyday life. No business can have long-term success without taking into account comprehensive humanitarian values. It is because human capital is the foundation. Moreover, human capital cannot be created, preserved and multiplied, guided by short-term interests. Business is impossible without trust and mutual respect. Business is impossible without a strong, nearly unrealistic dream. Moreover, emotional intelligence creates all these. However, emotional intelligence is not techniques. It is a world outlook, a picture of the world. Therefore, it is impossible to develop emotional intelligence without philosophy, without art. A paradoxical conclusion – the most seemingly impractical substance turns out to be a necessary basis for the most practical and efficient activity, that is, modern business. Without the ability to see a few steps or even tens of steps ahead, to see how the future is born already in the present, it is impossible to ensure a successful work. Any business idea, no matter how good it is, will not be implemented. Because in modern business, the originality, inventiveness, creativity, and humanitarian values are most important. You cannot take into account all these factors without EQ. A different management style simply will not work or will work extremely inefficiently. For example, we can recall the rather complicated relationship between Steve Jobs and his team, which have repeatedly put his business on a dangerous line. For example, we can recall the conflict between Jobs and Steve Wozniak about the Apple machine. Imagine a well-known corporation and a large-scale business; nevertheless, interpersonal conflicts began to arise. It often happens, that a situation is already extremely difficult to fix. Therefore, it is better to be able to detect problems in advance even before they become obvious and to prevent them.
