EBA Odesa HR Tour: How UkraMarine Builds an HR Ecosystem for Its Team

10/ 07/ 2026
On July 9, the Southern Ukrainian Office of the European Business Association held its latest EBA Odesa HR Tour meeting — this time at UkraMarine. The meeting was moderated by Tetiana Rikun, Human Resources Development Consultant, ICF Certified Coach, HRD of the UkraMarine Group of Companies. Yana Saranina, CEO of UkraMarine, also joined the meeting.  The theme of the meeting was Work as an Ecosystem: From a Student ID Card to a Successful Career and Golf at Work. Participants discussed how the company engages students and young talent, which internal training tools actually work in practice, and which non-standard perks help retain the team. Attendees saw firsthand what this ecosystem looks like at UkraMarine: their own UM Coffee café next to the office, a football club with weekly training sessions, mentorship for newcomers, and a sales manager development program — a path from sales specialist to associate partner running their own team. The company also supports students through internship and certification programs, and the office remains a pet-friendly space where the team works. The meeting took the form of an open discussion: participants actively shared their own experience, compared remote and fully in-office work formats, and discussed which approaches to motivation and team retention work in their companies — and which turned out to be less effective. Special attention was given to balancing work and rest: fishing and golf as summer activities, the companys own winemaking, and two large-scale corporate events per year — a summer team-building event and a winter celebration marking the companys anniversary.  UkraMarines experience once again confirms a trend EBA has been tracking in the labor market for some time: amid a labor shortage, non-material motivation — training, atmosphere, and genuine care for the team — is becoming the decisive factor in staff retention, not just salary levels.

The theme of the meeting was “Work as an Ecosystem: From a Student ID Card to a Successful Career and Golf at Work.” Participants discussed how the company engages students and young talent, which internal training tools actually work in practice, and which non-standard perks help retain the team. Attendees saw firsthand what this ecosystem looks like at UkraMarine: their own UM Coffee café next to the office, a football club with weekly training sessions, mentorship for newcomers, and a sales manager development program — a path from sales specialist to associate partner running their own team.
