Business meets with the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine

25/ 06/ 2025
On 23 June, the European Business Association held a general meeting with Vitalii Koval, Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine. Participants discussed the Ministry’s current priorities, as well as matters related to exports, processing, organic production, and the veterinary sector. European integration remains one of the Ministrys core focus areas, given the complexity and sensitivity of the process. Ukraine must not only align its agricultural sector with numerous EU norms and standards but also tackle persistent myths and stereotypes about Ukrainian agriculture. It is crucial that the transition does not undermine the potential of the Ukrainian agro-sector. Therefore, the Ministry will advocate for transitional periods, mitigations, and access to EU structural funds and resources to support the reform process. An active phase of screening Ukrainian legislation for compliance with EU law is expected to begin this autumn. Participants also exchanged views and arguments on the idea of introducing export duties on certain oilseed crops. The Minister noted that since 2021, the number of exporters in Ukraine has doubled, yet it remains necessary to also incentivise domestic processing. Additionally, the discussion covered the status of the Free Trade Agreement with Turkey, the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), quality control of veterinary medicinal products, organic farming, agri-food exports to African countries, transfer pricing, and other topics relevant to the business community. The EBA expresses its gratitude to Vitalii Koval for his continued dialogue and cooperation, openness, and attention to business concerns.
