Business welcomes the decision to increase the export limit of Ukrainian electricity

29/ 02/ 2024
The EBA business community welcomes the decision of the European Energy System Operator ENTSO-E to increase the maximum limit of Ukrainian electricity exports from Ukraine and Moldova to the EU countries to 550 MW per hour starting March 1. This decision indicates that, despite constant attacks on energy infrastructure and debt problems in the industry, the Ukrainian energy system continues to function steadily in emergency conditions. Moreover, such steps to boost the level of electricity exports will help to increase the amount of foreign exchange earnings, which is essential to support the Ukrainian economy. The EBA experts emphasize that the EU representatives are most interested in the export of environmentally friendly green electricity. That is why it is crucial to consider that the renewable energy sector in Ukraine needs maximum support, in particular, to solve financial problems. One of these problems is related to payments in the renewable energy sector. Even though payments improved last year, the states debt to renewable energy generation still amounts to almost UAH 24 billion (excluding VAT). In addition, Ukraine still needs to fully launch the mechanism of circulation of guarantees of electricity origin. So, I hope that these issues will be resolved this year. The EBA supports actions aimed at developing the energy sector of Ukraine and increasing its investment attractiveness and, at the same time, confirms the experts readiness to provide analysis and proposals for making appropriate changes to the countrys legislation.
