Business welcomes the acceleration of Ukraine’s customs integration with the EU

12/ 07/ 2022
On July 7, at the EU-CTC Working Group Meeting, a decision was made to invite Ukraine to join the Convention on a Common Transit Procedure (NCTS) and the Convention on the Simplification of Formalities in Trade in Goods. It is expected that Ukraine will be able to use the joint transit system or the so-called customs visa-free at the end of 2022. The experts of the European Business Association welcome this long-awaited step and hope that the acceleration of customs integration with the EU will help to reduce cargo delays at the border through a unified system of control over the movement of transit cargo, increase the effectiveness of risk analysis, and reduce bureaucratic barriers at border checkpoints. The Ministry of Finance of Ukraine states that Ukrainian businesses will be able to enjoy such benefits and simplifications upon joining the NCTS: a single transit declaration and a guarantee for the movement of goods between 36 countries (Ukraine, EU countries, Great Britain, Turkey, Serbia, North Macedonia, Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein, and Switzerland); authorized companies will be able to send and receive goods at their facilities without going to customs terminals; Ukrainian financial guarantees will be valid in another 35 countries of the world. Natalia Artemchuk. EBA Tax & Customs Committees Manager. Implementing the NCTS system should significantly speed up customs procedures and save time for customs officials and companies. Business is looking forward to the results of voting for draft law No. 7420 in the second reading. This document is supposed to harmonize the customs legislation of Ukraine and the EU.
