4 new AstraZeneca projects to support Ukraine

  Clinical trials, registration, supply and launch of new medicines, outreach activities to inform with the advanced treatment and the patient support programmes – all these are the key activities implemented by AstraZeneca permanently. The company’s dedication is to ensure patients can access to its life-saving medicines, it continues its uninterrupted supply of innovative medicines to Ukraine. At the same time, without holding or decreasing its major activities, the company makes efforts to implement new humanitarian relief projects on a regular basis diversifying types and directions of its support to Ukraine in hard times. Over the last months, the company has been focusing its efforts on implementing the new target funding for procurement of priority facilities to benefit medical institutions as well as on the cost-free delivery of innovative medicines to different regional hospitals of Ukraine.  Overall, 4 new projects have been implemented by AstraZeneca since summer 2022. In cooperation with the Free Ukraine NGO AstraZeneca provided financial support to the needs of Ministry of Health of Ukraine in the amount over $250 000, which has been spent for procurement of 5 evacuation Toyota cars. These high-speed, all-wheel-drive vehicles will allow rapid delivery of emergency medical teams to the scenes and evacuation of victims. The company transferred $500 000 in order to participate in funding the state procurement of reanimation cars (emergency ambulances) within the national platform UNITED24. Currently, the sustainable performance of emergency medical treatment system is of utmost priority in Ukraine due to bombing disruptive effect. The company’s contribution will facilitate reactivation of the system. At the Ministry’s of Health of Ukraine initiative and in partnership with YellowBlue Force Foundation the company contributed almost UAH 2 000 000 to support uninterruptible power supply. The funds have been used to procure 5 diesel generators of various capacities that will provide healthcare facilities with backup power sources. Patients suffering from heart failure and type 2 diabetes may now take advantage of one of the AstraZeneca humanitarian supplies’ project worth almost $170 000. 46 specialized medical institutions of different regions of Ukraine have received 3165 packs of the Forxiga 10mg (INN Dapagliflozin) innovative medicine produced by the company. Also, 1410 packs of innovative medicine Brilinta 90mg (INN Ticagrelor) were distributed among 11 healthcare facilitites to grant medical aid to patients with myocardial infarction. 3 consecutive tranches of these medicines’ supply have been already completed within the project. Another medicines’ tranche to amount over $100 000 is ahead to help with immediate needs. As a follow-up to the philanthropy, AstraZeneca plans to make further contributions to meet the top-of-the-agenda needs of the healthcare, which have become even more meaningful due to the war. Currently, the company is working on the project to support those affected by the war in Ukraine, namely to supply modern medical devices for osteosynthesis to a number of hospitals. In order to implement the project AstraZeneca made a commitment to contribute $250 000 for the procurement of the state-of-the-art medical devices to advance effective surgical treatment for injured patients. As well, in conjunction with Ministry of Health of Ukraine AstraZeneca considers the possibility of a new target funding within the national platform UNITED24. In addition, in view of the list of priority Ukrainian patients’ needs in medicines consolidated by the analytical group of experts from patients’ association and health authorities the company plans to donate oncological medicine Casodex 50mg and 150mg (INN Bicalutamide) in total number of 1919 packs to amount about $91 000 for prostate cancer treatment.   To date, AstraZeneca has provided over 10 million US dollars to response efforts.
