Delayed adoption of draft law №2289 threatens the work of the agricultural sector

01/ 06/ 2021
Adoption of draft law №2289 on unblocking the import of innovative plant protection products (PPPs) for state testing in Ukraine is supported by 16 business and agricultural and public associations: the American Chamber of Commerce in Ukraine, the European Business Association, the Union of Ukrainian Entrepreneurs, All-Ukrainian Agrarian Forum, members of which are: Agrarian Union of Ukraine, All-Ukrainian Agrarian Council, All-Ukrainian Association of Village and Settlement Councils, Ukrainian Agrarian Confederation and Ukrainian Agrarian Business Club Association, also supported by the Seed Association of Ukraine, the Ukrainian Control of Agrarian Protection, the Ukrainian Grain Association, the German-Ukrainian Chamber of Industry and Commerce, the Phytosanitary Association of Ukraine and the Ukrainian Seed Partnership Association. Every day of delay in the adoption of draft law №2289, in general, has a negative impact on both the economy and the environment because the latest developed drugs are safer for human health and the environment. Also, the current situation blocks the resumption of investment in research of PPPs in Ukraine. It is critical to consider and adopt draft law №2289 promptly given that the current season is not completely lost, and there is still time for state testing at least a number of innovative drugs, and soon the companies begin forming the budgets for research investment in Ukraine and necessary state testing procedures and logistics for the next season. The proposed changes will enable Ukrainian farmers to use the new generation of products, thereby increasing the yield and competitiveness of agricultural products and providing the opportunity to respond as early as possible to future challenges in pest control. Given the extreme importance and urgency of the adoption of draft law №2289, we appeal to the leadership of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, chairmen of parliamentary factions, and all MPs to include the draft law №2289 in the priority draft law and support its adoption on June 3.   Be the first to learn about the latest EBA news with our Telegram-channel – EBAUkraine.
