Meeting on the Implementation of an Experimental Project in Waste Management

04/ 09/ 2024
This week, the business community of the European Business Association met with Yevheniia Popovych, Director of the Department of Digital Transformation, Electronic Public Services, and Waste Management at the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine. During the meeting, they discussed the Ministrys idea of adopting a Government resolution on the implementation of an experimental project in waste management, including the management of packaging waste, electronic and electrical equipment, batteries, and more. Ms. Popovych noted that the pilot project is intended to allow businesses to test the creation of extended producer responsibility organizations and gain the necessary experience. This experience will later enable the Ministry to effectively draft secondary legislation in the waste management sector and ensure the efficient operation of the overall system. In turn, business representatives provided a number of suggestions and concerns that should be considered when launching such a pilot project. As a result of the meeting, it was agreed that the Association would consolidate proposals from the business community for the pilot project and submit them to the Ministry of Environmental Protection for further consideration in the finalization of the draft resolution. We appreciate the meeting and look forward to continued cooperation on this issue!
