Meeting of the Animal Health Committee with the First Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine

  On January 12, as part of the fruitful cooperation between the EBA Animal Health Committee and the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, a meeting was held with the First Deputy Minister, Taras Vysotskyi. This important meeting was dedicated to discussing several key issues in the field of veterinary medicine. In particular, the participants of the meeting discussed amendments to the legislation of Ukraine and the harmonization of certain regulations with the EU standards. Particular attention was paid to the amendments to the Law of Ukraine on Veterinary Medicine. The Committee expressed its gratitude for the support of the proposals aimed at harmonizing the European regulation of the production and circulation of veterinary medicines. The timeframe for adopting the draft amendments was also discussed. The parties also discussed updates to the legislation regulating the activities of public associations of veterinarians in Ukraine. The meeting emphasized the importance of the role of the veterinarian and its development and discussed the experience of public associations in Europe and the United States. Participants emphasized the need to harmonize guidelines for the prevention, treatment, and control of poultry diseases. Representatives of the companies emphasized the trends in the spread of highly pathogenic avian influenza in the world and the challenges for international trade in poultry products. In this context, it is important to work on this issue as part of Ukraines integration into the European Union and negotiations with trading partners. Regarding the regulation of salmonellosis in poultry farming, the participants discussed the importance of this issue in Ukraine. The companies on the committee expressed their readiness to provide their experts to develop changes to the current regulation to bring it in line with EU standards.
