Oksana Zharkova. the EBA Committees Coordinator. The Government began reforming this sphere in 2016. At the end of 2017, the National Waste Management Strategy and the Plan for its implementation were developed and approved. The adopted framework law is an important step in resolving the waste situation, which is reaching critical scale as the volume of garbage grows. Business supports the European way of waste management in Ukraine, working transparently and openly. The European Business Association has repeatedly emphasized the need to comply with the provisions of the National Strategy and the commitments undertaken by Ukraine in the framework of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement. This includes, inter alia, the introduction of an Extended Producer Responsibility, where each manufacturer is responsible for further processing, reuse of its packaging, and strict compliance with the hierarchy according to which uncontrolled waste incineration is a violation. Now the manufacturer is responsible only for production, design, packaging and sales. The parliament will decide the future of the bill. The experts of the European Business Association have long been working on providing proposals for this draft law, most of which have been considered. The business community welcomes the efforts of the Ministry of Environmental Protection aimed at resolving the issue of waste management and creating the appropriate regulatory framework. We expect that the final text of the bill will be published shortly, taking into account proposals from business.
