Statement of the business community on the development of the IT industry

12/ 02/ 2020
The IT community, united by the EBA and other business communities, welcomes the decision to prepare a joint Memorandum that will become a roadmap for the cooperation between the state and the business to ensure favourable conditions for the sustainable development of the Ukrainian IT industry.  These agreements were reached during the meeting of the IT community with Tymofyi Mylovanov, Minister of Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture of Ukraine, and Oleksandr Bornyakov, Deputy of the Minister of Digital Transformation. During the meeting, the participants discussed the key issues on the further development of the IT industry and the challenges that exist on this path. In particular, changes to the tax and labour legislation to correspond to the industry dynamics and demands, concepts of introducing quotas for the employment of highly skilled foreign engineers, and the lack of personnel and modernization of the technical education were discussed. Earlier, the Government (Ministry of Digital Transformation) presented the ambitious goals for the Ukrainian IT industry, namely the export income of 13 billion dollars, 650 thousand IT specialists, and 10% of IT in the country’s GDP. The EBA member companies welcome the decision and hope for a further constructive dialogue that considers the specifics of the IT industry in order to proceed from the discussions to actions – and to embody the ambitious goal set for the industry.
