Helios Strategia’s contribution to EUSEW 2024: RES projects to restore energy infrastructure

12/ 08/ 2024
The EUSEW held in 11-13 June 2024. Helios Strategia actively participated in events according to official agenda and partners events. 12 June 2024 presentation “Energy Sector of Ukraine: current situation and action plan to recovery” were addressed EU Green Week 2024 - European Regions for Hydrogen Society. Above mentioned speaker focused on statistic, analysis, needs for restoring infrastructure in Ukraine and list of the projects, in particular: Pre-war and current situation in energy sector of Ukraine, including energy mix, which were comparison with energy mix. In 2022, Ukraine was less depended (69%) on fossil fuels than Nederland (84.5%), Belgium (73.4%) vs France (53.6%) During full scale Russian invasion, Ukraine lost more than 2/3 of generation facilities. On May 2024 Ukraine become importer of electricity. Daily disconnection of the consumers it is current reality of Ukraine; For restoring energy infrastructure and grids Ukraine need systems Patriot and F-16, promised in 2023 with date of supply in spring 2024. Now it is midsummer 2024. Supplying of the weapons in time is very important for Ukraine now; Huge quantity of international organization and financial institutions are supporting Ukraine, but Ukraine need more asap to effectively restore energy&civilian infrastructures and stop Russia on the Ukrainian border and not allow spread to EU; In the list of the essential issues are: quick-repaire equipment, enhance grid connection Ukraine with EU, development distribution generation based on low-carbon fuels and RES, including solar PV, energy storages and other RES etc; TSO of electricity system of Ukraine see needs of the new generation for $20+ bln, incl. 3.8 GW of solar and 5GW of wind generation, 1 GW of battery storage etc; Even during the war Ukraine attract funding for implementation projects in nuclear, bio sectors, electricity and heat generation facilities, driven by USAID presence, and wind and solar – driven by private and foreign investments; Helios Strategia: in own portfolio have 5+ solar projects with different capacity&wide range of investment needs; is working with Ukrainian municipalities to support initiative of decentralization generation based on solar PV solutions; recently, received UK’s funding for the critical energy recovery project in Ukraine and Poland, and became winner of the tender for construction 26MW solar PV farm in Lithuania; Despite the war hydrogen is still in Ukrainians agenda. There are a lot of memo and projects for hydrogen production in Ukraine. Most of them fixed in the state policies. But now it is necessary to provide basic needs of consumers: electricity, heat, water etc. The hydrogen, which requires a significant amount of electricity and water, currently is not in the top-list of needs of Ukraine. Helios Strategia is grateful for possibility share more information about Ukraine and opportunities for cooperation. Special thanks to Marcos António Nogueira, Kamila Olchowicz, Sandra Dumonteil who organized and hosted this event!
