Verkhovna Rada has created conditions for forest inventory

03/ 06/ 2020
The respective draft law No.2379 On Amendments to the Forest Code of Ukraine Concerning the National Forest Inventory was adopted as a whole by Verkhovna Rada in the second reading yesterday. To manage forest resources effectively, it is required to have accurate data on their quantitative and qualitative characteristics. Conducting a forest inventory will allow Ukraine to collect and systematize data on its forests on a national scale for strategic planning of industry development, forestry, state forest cadaster, forest monitoring. Yevhen Kuzmenko. Woodworking & Furniture Committee Manager. Amendments to the Forest Code are an important step towards the introduction of a national forest inventory. At the same time, it is necessary to understand that currently only a legal basis is being created - the draft law defines a national forest inventory, establishes the responsibility for approving the procedure for conducting the forest inventory and the source of its financing. The next step is to develop an appropriate procedure and instructions for conducting a national forest inventory in Ukraine. At this stage, it is important to provide effective mechanisms for timely financing of the national inventory and mechanisms to ensure its long-term implementation, so that this initiative comes into reality and not just remains on paper. The National Forest Inventory will provide data on the actual forest cover of the state, total wood stocks in forests and its technical suitability, which in turn will help to form a strategy for the development of both forest and woodworking industries for years to come, so we hope for further positive developments soon.
