EBA met with the Head of the European Technical Assistance Project on Food Safety, Animal Health, and Welfare

  Today, the EBA Animal Health Committee member companies met with the head of the European technical assistance project Improving legislation, control, and awareness in the field of food safety, animal health, and welfare. The discussion was mainly focused on the adoption of an updated version of the Law of Ukraine On Veterinary Medicine. Thus, the Law implies the development of 85 regulations, which must be adopted by March 2022, and they will come into force in March 2023. At the same time, most of these documents are completely new to Ukraine and require a very balanced approach and the involvement of European experts with relevant experience. Besides, EBA representatives and international colleagues got into the details of these documents and talked about: developing a system of pharmacological supervision of veterinary drugs; licensing the import and sale of veterinary drugs; harmonizing instructions for the treatment and prevention of animal and poultry diseases, in particular, avian salmonellosis; providing the possibility of production and registration of autogenous vaccines; improving training programs for veterinarians and advanced training of specialists of the State Food and Consumer Service. The participants of the meeting agreed to coordinate efforts and cooperate in order to develop veterinary legislation that would be in line with international best practices in veterinary medicine. At the same time, the community looks forward to further support from European colleagues.
