UNICEF and P&G to set up parenting rooms in health facilities in Ukraine

07/ 09/ 2017
UNICEF with support from Procter & Gamble will set up parenting rooms in medical facilities in 11 locations in Donetsk and Luhansk Oblasts of Ukraine. At least 7,000 mothers and caregivers will benefit from improved access to basic services for children through the establishment of parenting rooms at polyclinics. The project will support the renovation and refurbishment of child friendly parenting rooms in health facilities and will enhance the capacity of medical staff to adequately guide mothers and caregivers accessing these facilities. The parenting rooms will provide improved access to basic hygiene practices for mothers with newborns through the provision of baby changing tables, hygiene supplies, boilers for hot water and information on hygiene and infant feeding. “Sometimes small changes make a huge difference!  Safe water, clean sanitation facilities and good hygiene practices are essential for the wellbeing and development of children. Without it we put children at risk of contracting water borne diseases,”said UNICEF Ukraine Representative Giovanna Barberis. Procter & Gamble has provided UAH 2.7 m to UNICEF to support the implementation of this initiative in support to improved access to basic hygiene supplies, basic hygiene practices and sanitation in Eastern Ukraine. “For us at P&G it is important to make a positive difference for community we work and live with. Care is at the heart of our company and brands. That is why through our “P&G Care to every home” program we strive to provide comfort of home, health and hygiene to those who need it most and in places where it is needed most. This project in partnership with UNICEF is a great opportunity to make life a little easier for 7,000 mothers and caregivers,” emphasized Dmytro Kyselyov, General Director of P&G Ukraine. Ultimately, the initiative empowers every woman to make well informed health-based decisions with regards to infant and young child care.
