EBA participated in a roundtable on monitoring trans fats in food products

16/ 10/ 2026
Tetiana Shyrochenko, Committees Manager at the European Business Association, took part in a roundtable on monitoring trans fatty acids in food products. The event brought together representatives of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, the State Production and Consumer Service, the Public Health Centre of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, professional associations and civil society organisations. During the meeting, the results of the second round of the trans fat surveillance project (FEEDCities) were presented. Participants also discussed current challenges in monitoring trans fatty acids in food products and identified priority areas for further work. Tetiana Shyrochenko shared the results of the work carried out by the Association’s relevant committees, including their efforts relating to Law No. 3947-IX on improving the quality of food products, including those consumed by children. She also highlighted challenges facing the dairy industry, particularly the practice of unscrupulous manufacturers using cheaper hydrogenated oils containing industrial trans fats instead of more expensive natural fats to reduce production costs. In addition, Tetiana Shyrochenko noted that neither EU nor Ukrainian legislation establishes an exhaustive list of food products or raw materials containing naturally occurring trans fatty acids. The Association thanks the WHO Country Office in Ukraine for the invitation and all participants for a productive discussion. The business community will continue working with the government and other stakeholders to improve food safety.
