17/ 06/ 2021
On June 15, by Presidential Decree №248 / 2021, Tetyana Lomakina was appointed Advisor – Commissioner of the President of Ukraine for the Barrier-Free Environment. Business congratulates Ms. Lomakina on her appointment and hopes that with her participation Ukraine will be able to establish necessary prerequisites for implementing the policy of accessibility, monitoring its effectiveness, and increasing the transparency of all processes. The barrier-free concept is the key one in guiding the responsible business which builds its activities on the principles of sustainable development and European integration. Therefore, the community has specified TOP-5 priorities that will help strengthen cooperation between business and the state on the way to creating a barrier-free environment in Ukraine. First is reforming legislation on the employment of people with disabilities, namely, developing incentives for employers, reviewing approaches to the implementation of job standards, and strengthening the institutional capacity of public authorities in the field of employment. Second is establishing cooperation among various stakeholders, namely, representatives of central executive bodies, parliament, and business, which will facilitate the incorporation of barrier-free principles in all subsequent regulations. Third is raising awareness of business representatives about the importance of barrier-free principles, namely, spreading information materials, good practices, as well as informing on the benefits of being a non-discriminatory company, and so on. Fourth is attracting the best European experience and approaches to creating a barrier-free environment, namely, in terms of improving digital accessibility, which is a prerequisite for ensuring public access to administrative, financial, and other services. Fifth is continuing the course on digitalization and simplification of the procedure for obtaining public services. It is worth noting that this is a newly established position, which did not exist before. Therefore, the European Business Association hopes that this will enable the effective implementation of a barrier-free policy in the country.   Be the first to learn about the latest EBA news with our Telegram-channel – EBAUkraine.
