Launch of the Case Management Program: Children of Heroes Charity Fund Adopts a New Approach to Supporting Families

17/ 03/ 2025
Starting in February 2025, the Children of Heroes Charity Fund is launching a new case management program designed to provide targeted and comprehensive support to families who have lost one or both parents due to the war. Previously, the Fund focused on emergency aid, offering one-time payments and material assistance to address urgent needs. However, experience has shown that families require structured and personalized support to not only overcome immediate crises but also move forward. We want our assistance to be not just temporary but systematic and long-term. The case management program will allow us to take a comprehensive approach to each family, guiding them toward programs that best match their current needs and help them build a stable foundation for the future,  says Anna Khomenko, Director of the Children of Heroes CF. What the New Program Offers: Individual assessment of each familys situation Access to medical, legal, educational, and psychological support Long-term engagement to help families gradually adapt to new living conditions How Case Management Supports Families in Crisis On November 11, 2024, Olena and her daughter Varvara lost their home in a missile strike. Miraculously, they survived but were left without shelter. Olena recalls: We survived only because we moved to the hallway just in time after receiving the warning. The childrens room, where we had been just minutes before the strike, no longer exists. Among the rubble, we found fragments of the missile that could have killed us. At that moment, I was ready to walk away with nothing but a bag of documents and leave everything behind. But my husbands friends and our neighbors helped us salvage what little we could. Now, we have to start life over, but I know that together with my daughter, we will find the strength to move forward while honoring the bright memory of her father and his love for us. Thanks to the case management program, the Fund quickly provided the family with psychological support, humanitarian aid in the form of food and essential items, as well as financial assistance for housing and Varvara’s education. This story is a powerful example of how case management is about more than just financial aid. The Fund first addresses urgent needs through existing programs and then supplements them with financial support if necessary. The Children of Heroes Charity Fund remains committed to ensuring that every child who has lost parents due to the war receives not only immediate assistance but also the opportunities needed to build a stable and secure future.
