Special meeting of the EBA Southern Ukrainian Office with the Head of the European Union Delegation to Ukraine

  The Head of the European Union Delegation to Ukraine, Ambassador Hugues Mingarelli visited Odesa for the first time since assuming his position. With the aim to provide a comprehensive overview of the business climate in the south of Ukraine, in particular in the ports of Odesa region, the EBA Southern Ukrainian Office organized a meeting in partnership with EUBAM with Ambassador Mingarelli for Association members. According to the Ambassador, Ukraine remains a priority for the EU and the defense of its sovereignty and independence remains in focus. The EU delegation is working to overcome tariff barriers that investors face and to harmonize Ukrainian legislation with EU law. During the open dialogue, entrepreneurs expressed ideas that could promote trade with the European Union, and shared their proposals on measures that would facilitate trade in ports. Also, the meeting discussed pressing problems encountered by foreign investors in Ukraine: pressure from officials and law enforcement bodies, and ineffectiveness of current legislation. Participants discussed the prospects for the proposed Customs Reform Concept, which was launched by the Government of Ukraine this year.
