Analysis of Biohacking Tools, Workshops From Speakers and a Demo Zone With Health Gadgets: Results of Biohacking Conference Kyiv 2020?
On November 11, Smile-Expo organized the first Biohacking Conference Kyiv 2020, dedicated to efficient ways to promote health, prolong youth and achieve longevity.
Event gathered geneticists, doctors, biogerontologists, virologists, embryologists, pathophysiologists, meditation coaches, face fitness experts and other specialists at one platform. The speakers analyzed peculiarities of the human body, methods of improving the body and brain, told about the results of their own research and held workshops. Busy program of the event allowed guests not only to receive useful knowledge, but also to learn to use it in real life.
Event featured a demo area where exhibitors presented products designed to monitor health and improve wellbeing.
What did the speakers talk about at the conference?
12 highly qualified experts participated in Biohacking Conference Kyiv 2020. Event was moderated by Candidate of Medical Sciences Lyudmyla Turova and a host of health TV shows Maryna Zaderko.
Modern ways to achieve longevity
Biogerontologist and founder of the School of longevity Oleksandr Kolyada analyzed the main differences between biohacking and a healthy lifestyle, and reviewed modern ways to increase life expectancy. He explained which factors trigger the aging process in the body and outlined three main pathways to achieving longevity.
According to the scientist, to increase life duration, you need to stay physically active, pay attention to the quality of sleep and control nutrition.
Genetic nutrition as the basis of biohacking
The audience was highly interested in the presentation of dietarian and immunologist Lyudmyla Goncharova. She explained which tools should be used to stay healthy and fit.
According to the expert, today genetic analysis allows us to study the needs of the body and determine the food products that are useful for each individual. Based on the results of a DNA test, a nutritionist can create a diet for the patient consisting only of food that is best absorbed by the body.
Possibilities of ‘genetic scissors’
Olha Chaplya, Candidate of Sciences in Biology, spoke about the features and prospects of the CRISPR-Cas9 genome editing technology. She clarified that this tool is more efficient and easier to use than other gene editing methods.
Olga’s presentation also highlighted the principles of the technology and field of application. Thus, it can be used to study the nuclear localization of a gene, improve the qualities of agricultural plants, etc.
The use of non-coding RNAs for treating diseases
Presentation titled “Non-coding genome: classification, features, and prospects of use” was delivered by Presentation, senior research associate at the Department of General and Molecular Pathophysiology at Bohomolets Institute of Physiology at the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. The expert talked about the functions of noncoding RNAs and used the his own research examples to explain how they can be used to treat certain diseases. In addition, he analyzed risks that can be encountered when using this type of therapy.
Methods for dealing with stress
Doctor of Biological Sciences Nana Voytenko explained how and where emotions are formed, and what are the efficient ways of coping with stress. She provided recommendations for normalizing the level of cortisol in the body, and also noted that it is possible to stabilize the emotional state with physical activities and meditation.
Face fitness to harmonize the internal and external state
The audience was highly interested in the speech of Olena Rossoshynska, founder of International Face Fitness Academy. She explained why it is important to control emotions and demonstrated how facial gymnastics can make you look younger and better-looking on the examples of her students.
Olena also conducted a practical lesson on face fitness. Together with the speaker, guests of the event, performed several simple exercises that can help to control facial expressions and prevent age-related changes on the face.
Improving mental health with meditation
Hlib Khodorovskyi, coach of corporate mindfulness programs, spoke about the impact of meditation on mental health. Expert noted that practicing mindfulness meditation reduces stress levels, improves sleep quality and prevents emotional burnout.
During the practical part of the presentation, Hlib demonstrated meditation technique to improve concentration.
Health management, running, anti-aging and the role of viruses in human life
Geneticist Lyudmyla Turova reviewed the main goals of biohacking and examined it from the predictive healthcare and clinical genetics perspective. Expert analyzed what is the basis of personalized healthcare and whether it is possible to cheat heredity and change DNA.
Presentation by the Candidate of Sciences in Biology Oleksandr Skorokhod was dedicated to the effect of physical activity on life expectancy. The speaker explained why it is useful to run and shared the secrets of the correct approach to training. He ensured that you can start running at any age.
Oleh Lushchak, Candidate of Sciences in Biology, spoke about personalized anti-aging therapy. He highlighted the factors that determine the speed of aging, gave examples of substances that can affect life expectancy, and named the possible side effects.
The topic “The role of viruses and germs in our productive life and their contribution to ageing of the body” was covered by virologist Nadiya Zholobak. She explained such concepts as ‘virome’ and ‘microbiome’, noted common things between humans and termite mounds and talked about the benefits of transient microorganisms and the importance of proper nutrition.
In her presentation, chemist Yulia Gagarina drew attention to external factors that contribute to human aging. She provided an overview of an algae-derived ingredient that can help fight age-related changes and rejuvenate skin.

Conference demo area featured products and gadgets for maintaining health, strengthening immunity, restoring the body vitality, skin care and other purposes.
