RGC is testing proprietary gas pressure regulating stations produced in line with European standards and designed to work with gas and hydrogen mixes

02/ 09/ 2021
August 31, 2021, Kharkiv. Regional Gas Company started hydrogen testing of gas pressure regulating stations produced by RGC Production to confirm that they are ready to work with gas and hydrogen mixtures containing 20% of hydrogen. Tests will last for a month at test sites located in 5 regions of Ukraine. Bureau Veritas, the world leader in processes and products certification and quality control, will oversee the RGC Production testing procedures. During the period of 25th August through 22nd September 2021, gas pressure regulating equipment will be tested for its ability to work with gas and hydrogen mixtures at 5 hydrogen test sites located in Zhytomyr, Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Volynsk, and Ivano-Frankivsk regions. All gas-regulating points are produced by RGC Production and equipped with H2-ready regulators produced by Pietro Fiorentini; the latter are certified by their producer to work with mixtures containing 20% of hydrogen. The tests of gas regulating points are conducted with the view to present RGC Production equipment at Enlit Europe international exhibition as an H2-ready and to further export Ukrainian products to EU countries. Simultaneously, gas-metering units, gas-regulating points equipped with gas-metering units, gas distribution units, block-type gas control units will be tested for their ability to work with mixtures containing 20% hydrogen. Tests will be performed at the 5 most common types of gas pressure regulating stations with the capacity of 50 cubic meters per hour to 350 cubic meters per hour. This equipment is mainly used to regulate gas for domestic and small industrial gas consumers. Before tests, each gas reduction point is purged with inert gas, and only after that, it is filled with natural gas or hydrogen mixture. Each unit is first tested on natural gas and then on the hydrogen mixture. Then the results are compared. The following tests will be conducted at each of the 5 test sites: Checks on safety shut-off valves: Pressure will be gradually increased at gas pressure regulating cabinets and pressure readings will be recorded at the moment when the safety shut-off valve is activated. External pressure integrity checks: Gas pressure regulating cabinets filled with gas will be held for 12 hours under operating pressure. They will be periodically inspected for leaks (welded joints, releasable joints, pressure regulator housings, safety shut-off valves, safety relief valves, gas filters). In case of leaks, their locations are identified and gas concentrations are recorded. Internal pressure integrity checks: Regulators at gas pressure regulating cabinets filled with gas are inspected for tightness by changing the gas flow through the valve stem, first by increasing and then by decreasing the gas flow. Checks on gas filters for pressure drop: Pressure differential at the filter is measured at the maximum gas flow. Gas reduction points capacity depending on the type: Type 2 up to 50 cubic meters per hour Type 3 up to 75 cubic meters per hour Type 4 up to 120 cubic meters per hour Type 5 up to 250 cubic meters per hour Type 6 up to 350 cubic meters per hour Bureau Veritas that is overseeing RGC Production testing procedures offers a full range of certification and auditing services. Bureau Veritas conducts audits in compliance with the international standards as well as in line with specific customer requirements in the field of quality, occupational health and safety, environment, and corporate social responsibility.
