Project for children in the Donetsk region, Eastern Ukraine

21/ 06/ 2018
Dear EBA members, We would be pleased if you could support us in a project for children in the Donetsk region, Eastern Ukraine. We EBA members are all in Ukraine to do business and many of us also already support social projects in the country where we work. We appeal in particular to members of the EBA, who are looking for ways to participate in charity and community service projects, or who may already support such projects, and who may still hold additional funds for such projects. This could be for example those whose business has grown over the past 1-3 years. As you know, the Donetsk region in eastern Ukraine is still the scene of an armed conflict. We believe it is especially in this suffering region important to show through reconstructions that it is worth believing in Ukraine, that there is a future and that Europe and the European business community in Ukraine are committed to support the people of Eastern Ukraine. Our project proposal: It concerns a childrens house in Kramatorsk, the administrative centre of the Ukrainian controlled part of the Donetsk region: the children`s house is called Centre for social-psychological rehabilitation at the Childrens Rights Authority of Kramatorsk. Over the past 2 and a half years, more than 200 children from difficult circumstances - including many so-called street children - have been given a temporary new home in this orphanage. These are not only children without parents but also many abandoned by their parents street children who come from disadvan-taged backgrounds whose parents were unable to care of them, because they are for example, drug addicts, alcoholics or simply just disappeared, who abused their children or simply left them abandoned on the street. The children may live in the orphanage for a period of several months or even years, in the hope that one day they will be taken in by relatives or find a new family with foster parents or adoptive parents. The child care workers look after the children with dedication and love. To erase the memories their traumatic experiences of the past and get to know a decent life with happy experiences, receive love and care, develop self-esteem and to prepare for them a new, happier life, as well as in a home during the time in the home is possible - and eventually return to a family, often in a new, sometimes, when the parents feel better, even in the old. The children are educated in the school next door together with children from the residential area. In their spare time the carers of the children`s home together with volunteers organize music, dance and theatre groups, art courses, sports and games for the children. Around the building, a beautiful park has been created with playgrounds, sport fields, and a greenhouse, where the carers grow fresh vegetables for the children. View the Presentation Why and for what is our support needed: While the staff of the children`s house and many voluntary helpers try to make the children happy in the house and park, the house, a beautiful historic building from the middle of the 20th century is in a horrible state and threaten with collapse. Our company has been supporting the children’s centre for 2 years and is willing to contribute further to the project within our capabilities. But we alone cannot do it as a small/medium-sized company, which would exceed our possibilities but if there are more supporters in the Ukraine and from abroad, we could succeed and make it happen. What is needed: 1. First, a measurement survey to create plans, elevations and sections of the building and detailed specifications of the works to be carried out. Architectural-technical inventory should be made by an engineer-architect who examines the condition of the building, and, in coordination with the management of the children`s home, devises a project for the reconstruction. Because the funds for complete renovation can possibly not be raised in one year, this project could be divided into several renovation phases, that means is a phased plan (for example, first renovation of the roof and rafters, then foundation, then facade, after internal modernization). Maybe there are EBA members with expertise that could take over this part? 2. On the basis of this architectural project a transparent, nationwide public tender for commercial proposals of construction companies will take place - for the overall project and for the subsections. 3. We believe that the commitment and participation of the city authorities of Kramatorsk should be a “must”. As soon as the results of the tender are available and on the basis of which there is clarity on the estimated cost budget, negotiations with the city administration shall be held with the aim of achieving their participation. At a meeting on 22/05/2018 the deputy city mayor of Kramatorsk, Yuri A. Lyulka, agreed to our proposal, that the city administration would add 1 UAH from the city budget to each 1 UAH provided by donors to that project, provided there will be a professional reconstruction project and the sum moves in a reasonable frame and wills not be beyond the possibilities of the city. This gave rise to the idea that the project might be realized in stages over 2-3 years, if there should not be enough budget resources for one year. 4. Preparation and signing of the contracts, start of the reconstruction works. Above are our suggestions. We would be happy if they find your support. Dear EBA members,

We would be pleased if you could support us in a project for children in the Donetsk region, Eastern Ukraine.

Our project proposal:

It concerns a children’s house in Kramatorsk, the administrative centre of the Ukrainian controlled part of the Donetsk region: the children`s house is called “Centre for social-psychological rehabilitation at the Children’s Rights Authority of Kramatorsk”.

Over the past 2 and a half years, more than 200 children from difficult circumstances – including many so-called “street children” – have been given a temporary new home in this orphanage. These are not only children without parents but also many abandoned by their parents “street children” who come from disadvan-taged backgrounds whose parents were unable to care of them, because they are for example, drug addicts, alcoholics or simply just disappeared, who abused their children or simply left them abandoned on the street.

The children may live in the orphanage for a period of several months or even years, in the hope that one day they will be taken in by relatives or find a new family with foster parents or adoptive parents.

The child care workers look after the children with dedication and love. To erase the memories their traumatic experiences of the past and get to know a decent life with happy experiences, receive love and care, develop self-esteem and to prepare for them a new, happier life, as well as in a home during the time in the home is possible – and eventually return to a family, often in a new, sometimes, when the parents feel better, even in the old.
