President signs bill on demonopolization of phytosanitary services

  This week, the President of Ukraine signed bill number 6673 implementing international practice in Ukraine for the possibility for private laboratories to carry out phytosanitary examinations. Firstly, it will expand the network of phytosanitary laboratories. Secondly, it will reduce the time for doing examinations and help to avoid duplication of operations. Thirdly, it will improve the quality of procedures and help to minimize costs for agrarians. The business community welcomes this decision. The EBA Grain and Oilseeds Committee also notes that it will help to improve the investment attractiveness of the agrarian sector in Ukraine. In addition, the adoption of this legislative initiative will intensify the harmonization of Ukraines legislation with EU texts in the field of phytosanitary measures and to liberalize business conditions in the agrarian sector. According to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, exports to EU countries in January-April 2018 increased by $145 million compared with 2017, now totaling $1.9 billion. Source: Interfax
