EBA representative joined roundtable on trans fat monitoring

20/ 03/ 2026
Tetiana Shyrochenko, Committees Manager at the European Business Association, took part in a roundtable discussion on monitoring trans fatty acids in food products, with the participation of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection, the Public Health Centre, and WHO experts. During the meeting, participants discussed the current situation, achievements, and challenges in the field of control and monitoring of trans fatty acids in food products. They also agreed on priority areas, joint actions, and planned activities for 2026. For her part, Tetiana highlighted the active involvement of the Association’s food industry experts in the refinement of the Law “On Amendments to Certain Laws of Ukraine on Improving Food Safety and Quality” and in the legislative regulation of maximum permitted levels of trans fatty acids in food products. She also expressed her appreciation for the productive cooperation with the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Agrarian and Land Policy. Tetiana also drew attention to the issue of dairy product adulteration, where unscrupulous producers partially or fully replace milk fat with vegetable fats (such as palm or coconut oil, as well as hydrogenated fats). This poses direct risks to consumer health and distorts market competition by lowering product prices. Such products are most commonly sold at informal markets. The Association expresses its gratitude to WHO Ukraine for the invitation to the event.
