EBA representatives participate in discussion on Ukraine’s climate goals

30/ 05/ 2025
On 27 May, the Manager of the Industrial Ecology and Sustainable Development Committee, along with members of the European Business Association Committee, had the opportunity to join the event Ukraine’s Climate Policy: The Second Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) Amid Current Challenges. The event brought together representatives from government, business, and international partners to discuss Ukraine’s climate targets. To recall, an NDC is a document in which a country outlines its commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to climate change under the Paris Agreement. Ukraine has already adopted its second NDC, which envisages a 65% reduction in emissions by 2030 compared to 1990 levels. A key focus of the discussion was the challenges posed by the full-scale war, and the need to adapt climate policy to the conditions of post-war recovery and economic development through to 2035. The Committee Manager took part in the panel discussion “Business Strategies for Decarbonisation”, where she emphasised the importance of a bottom-up approach in developing the third NDC. This approach calls for active involvement from business, civil society, and the scientific community to ensure the realism and effectiveness of the goals. The discussion also addressed the financing of decarbonisation measures, business needs, and opportunities for innovation and attracting green investment. We sincerely thank the Ministry of Environmental Protection and our international partners for organising the event and for the opportunity to contribute to this important discussion!
