  Recent changes in legislation. Rent and “Bad Debt” in the crisis period was the topic of the first meeting of the renewed Legal Committee of EBA Kharkiv. Experienced lawyers of Sayenko Kharenko Law Firm (Kyiv) Olena Sukmanova and Anastasia Bidakh were the speakers. The meeting began with a discussion of the latest changes in legislation in the land sector. Speaking about the contractual lease relationship, Ms Bidakh provided practical advice on how to avoid possible risks such as: contractor evaluation and assessment, individualization of the leased object, transparency and comprehensibility for the parties to commercial conditions, defining the purpose of the lease, use of the premises and much more. Ms Sukmanova clarified different approaches in dealing with “bad debt” during the crisis. The participants of the meeting received the latest data on the current situation in Ukraine: currently more than 2 million Ukrainians are on the register of debtors. During the last year, their number increased by 18%. In order to avoid getting into unpleasant debt situations, the speaker recommended segmenting the debt portfolio, then analyzing the contractual basis and researching the court history of the counterparty and related parties.
