Half a year on the energy front

  Since the full-scale war, Ukrainian critical infrastructure has been constantly under attack by the russian occupiers. Therefore, for more than half a year, enterprises of the oil and gas, natural gas, and electric power sectors have been doing everything possible to restore destroyed objects, return light and heat to Ukrainian settlements, as well as defend the energy front: Oil and gas sector NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine successfully conducted negotiations with holders of Eurobonds due in July 2024. Thus, 77% of investors voted yes and agreed to the proposal to postpone payments for 2 years. The gas supply company Naftogaz of Ukraine provided clarification on how each of its 12.3 million customers can find bills for gas consumption in the most convenient way. In August, the contact center of Naftogaz of Ukraine handled 961,592 calls. The company continues to receive requests from customers in wartime all over Ukraine. More than 1 million clients of Naftogaz of Ukraine are already using GASUA chatbots on Viber and Telegram. All digital services of the company continue to be available. Consumers of Naftogaz Trading LLC reduced their use of natural gas by 19.2% over the month. The company also informed heat energy producers about the terms for concluding contracts ahead of the heating season, as well as contractual write-off agreements. Ukrtransgaz facilities remain under increased security and continue to work as usual. JSC Ukrgazvydobuvannya continues to produce gas stably at all its facilities, except for those located near the contact line. The company launched a new pressure compressor station in the west of Ukraine. It will help extract more gas, ensure the reliable operation of the entire complex for uninterrupted fuel supply in the heating season for Ukrainians, and improve the quality of blue fuel. Also, JSC Ukrgazvydobuvannya continued with a series of round tables for potential suppliers and partners. After JSC Ukrtransnafta forcibly stopped the transit of russian oil through the Ukrainian section of the Druzhba pipeline due to the non-payment of advances by PJSC Transneft, transportation of oil was resumed through the Ukrainian section. JSC Ukrspetstransgaz will continue to work as usual under martial law conditions. The area of JSC Donetskoblgaz’s operations is still in a dire situation due to hostilities, but its employees continue to work. In August, the companys specialists completed the repair of that came under enemy fire, started providing technical consultations to clients regarding the individual use of propane-butane cylinders, evacuated 32 units of their own equipment, eliminated the consequences of shelling in the town of Toretsk, where 100 m of the gas pipeline was damaged. JSC Kirovogradgaz operates as usual. The Novoyavorivsk and Novorozdil thermal plants operate as usual. Preparation for the heating season continues according to plan. The branches Novorozdilski elektromerezhi and Novoyavorivski elektromerezhi work stably. Despite preparations for work in the autumn-winter period, all consumers of the enterprise receive electricity without interruption. Electricity In August, DTEK Grids energy workers restored electricity to 344,000 families that were left in blackouts due to shelling in the Donetsk and Dnipropetrovsk regions. A total of 3.6 million households have had their electricity restored since the full-scale aggression of the russian federation on the territory of Ukraine. A significant part of these households had suffered from blackouts dozens of times due to constant shelling. The power grids of the Donetsk region suffer the most damage. Shelling occurs every day, leaving thousands of families in the region without electricity. In the last month alone, DTEK electricians have restored electricity to more than 271,000 families in the region in 413 settlements. The shelling of the Dnipro region is also becoming more and more frequent. The Kryvorizky, Nikopol, and Synelnyk districts regularly suffer from enemy attacks. In August, energy workers had to restore electricity for almost 72,000 families in 174 settlements in the region. According to preliminary estimates, the restoration of grids in the Kyiv Region to the pre-war level will require investments of nearly UAH 1 billion. For this, the company needs aid from the state and international partners. Of these, the company has already invested more than 300 million hryvnias in restoring electricity to the residents of the Kyiv region immediately after liberation from the occupiers. The second stage of restoration, namely of backup power sources, requires investments of another 600-700 million UA in the perspective of 2022-2023. However, it will make it possible to provide reliable electricity supply to cities and villages that existed before the start of hostilities. Also, the work of 550 gas control points and 1316 closed-circuit gas regulating stations was restored. The emergency dispatch service of JSC Kharkivmiskgaz responded to more than 120 calls related to the smell of gas in a week. The consequences of enemy shelling were eliminated to protect the townspeople from even greater destruction. As a result of the attack of the russian federation on the Kharkiv region, distribution gas pipelines were damaged in one of the cities. Specialists of JSC Kharkivgaz are repairing damage to gas distribution networks caused by shelling to resume the natural gas supply to consumers. A significant section of the gas pipe was literally torn out of the system by the explosion. Specialists of JSC Sumygaz restored gas distribution in Sumy district and Krasnopil. Networks and residential buildings in communities were destroyed as a result of shelling by Russian attackers. The gas workers carried out emergency restoration work for two days.
