Businesses and Energy Sector Representatives Discuss Reliable Power Supply and Winter Preparedness in Odesa Region

  Energy resilience remains one of the key priorities for businesses operating under the ongoing challenges of wartime. Reliable electricity supply, predictable operation of the energy infrastructure, and effective cooperation between businesses, energy companies and public authorities are essential prerequisites for ensuring business continuity and preparing for the upcoming autumn and winter season.  On July 21, the Southern Ukrainian Office of the European Business Association took part in a working meeting organised by the Odesa Regional Military Administration at the initiative of the Odesa Regional Entrepreneurs Council, bringing together representatives of DTEK Odesa Grids, the business community and industry associations.  During the meeting, DTEK Odesa Grids CEO Dmytro Hryhoriev presented the companys approach to preparing the electricity distribution network for the autumn and winter period, implementing its maintenance and investment programmes, developing digital services, and carrying out measures to improve the reliability of electricity supply. The discussion also covered mechanisms for cooperation with businesses regarding grid connections, distribution network development, and the restoration of energy infrastructure damaged by Russian attacks.  Considerable attention was devoted to strengthening the regions energy resilience, enhancing transparent cooperation between businesses and the distribution system operator, expanding digital services, improving communication during emergency situations, and preparing enterprises for potential challenges during the upcoming heating season. Participants also discussed the importance of increasing business energy independence through backup power solutions and developing coordinated response mechanisms between public authorities, businesses and energy companies under wartime conditions.  On behalf of EBA member companies, Kateryna Morozova, Head of the EBA Southern Ukrainian Office, raised a number of issues submitted by businesses. These included simplifying the procedures for obtaining technical conditions to connect a second power line, the cost structure of such projects and the allocation of financial responsibilities between the distribution system operator and customers. She also addressed the possibility of simplifying land allocation procedures for the construction of new power lines, as well as introducing additional technical measures to protect electricity infrastructure from the consequences of enemy attacks.  Representatives of DTEK Odesa Grids provided detailed explanations regarding the existing grid connection procedures, digital customer services and cooperation mechanisms with businesses, while confirming the companys readiness to continue promptly addressing individual business requests. The participants also discussed the operation of the power system under martial law, the restoration of damaged infrastructure with the support of international partners, and practical recommendations for businesses to strengthen their own energy resilience.  The ЕВА Southern Ukrainian Office expresses its gratitude to the Odesa Regional Military Administration, the Department of Economy of the Odesa Regional Military Administration, and the Odesa Regional Entrepreneurs Council for facilitating a constructive dialogue between businesses, energy companies and public authorities. Such meetings enable businesses to promptly raise pressing issues, receive professional guidance, and jointly develop practical solutions aimed at ensuring business continuity and strengthening the regions energy resilience.
