The Cybersecurity Subcommittee discussed tasks for 2024

02/ 08/ 2024
On July 23, 2024, the newly established EBA Cybersecurity Subcommittee held its first open meeting with the support of its partner, The Aspen Institute Kyiv. The meeting was attended by representatives of key stakeholders in the field of cybersecurity from the public sector in Ukraine and from business - CISOs of well-known companies in the field of electronic communications, energy, and representatives of IT companies. Given the current level of importance of information, the integration of technology into all spheres of life, and the active phase of full-scale invasion, cybersecurity is an integral and key element of the countrys overall security. According to the relevant government agencies, the number of cybercrimes increases by +30% annually, while the level of critical incidents decreases by 65% annually, which indicates active work and work on previous mistakes by both business and the public sector. Yuriy Kotlyarov and Sergii Prynov, as co-chairs of the Cybersecurity Subcommittee, presented a vision of opportunities for the community through the implementation of three vectors of the subcommittees work in 2024: Supporting public-private dialogue: as part of this task, the subcommittee plans to hold a series of meaningful meetings with the main cybersecurity stakeholders from the state, inviting all interested EBA members. Advocacy: the subcommittee plans to pay attention to all important legislative and regulatory initiatives. Interaction: the Subcommittee plans to make efforts to exchange information and experience between the members of the Subcommittee, with other members of the ЕВА, thematic meetings with other associations and international organizations, cross-industry (cross-committee) thematic meetings. Another important issue, the priority of which is recognized by all participants of the meeting, is the exchange of information on cybersecurity incidents. At this stage, a common platform for sharing such information has not yet been formed. In this regard, the subcommittee could become the necessary platform for dialogue on the creation and functioning of such a system of information exchange that would take into account the interests of the public and private sectors. Another issue that public sector stakeholders consider important is support for expert development and training of government and defense professionals. Cybersecurity is not a sprint, but rather a marathon, which should be fueled by constant interaction between all stakeholders and accompanied by the creation of a high-quality framework. So, these plans are just the beginning. The EBA Cybersecurity Subcommittee was established at the initiative of the participants of the Dialogue on Cybersecurity Program. The Cybersecurity Dialogue Program is supported by the USAID Cybersecurity for Critical Infrastructure in Ukraine Activity in cooperation with the Aspen Institute Kyiv.
