The speaker of the lecture was Viktor Kocherga, who has been working with IT companies in Ukraine for more than 10 years and currently provides services to EPAM as a Lead Systems Engineer.

The term SCRUM is borrowed from the sport of rugby, which means “team game”. In fact, this is the essence of the methodology: teamwork, which has its own rules, roles and tools, and constant interaction and communication between its “players” and with the customer.

The main components of the SCRUMmethodology are:

  • 3 roles: Development team (up to 9 people), Scrum-master, Product Owner
  • Sprint (running a short distance): iteration with a fixed period of time
  • 4 meetings: sprint planning, stand-up (daily short meeting), sprint review, retrospective
  • 3 documents: Product backlog (single resource with description of requirements for all product changes), Sprint backlog (to-do list that helps the development team achieve sprint goals), Sprint Burn Down Chart (task burnout chart)

Basic principles of SCRUM:

  1. Communication
  2. Simplicity
  3. Feedback
  4. Strength
  5. Respect
SCRUM has long established itself as an effective methodology of work and is widely used by well-known IT-companies in the world and in Ukraine, for example, in EPAM, Ciclum, SoftServe and other IT-companies and those with 200+ employees.
