Providing International Education for Good: A Story from PSI Kyiv in Ukraine

16/ 09/ 2024
As the 2024-2025 school year unfolds at Pechersk School International (PSI) in Kyiv, we are reminded of the resilience and dedication that defines our community. Despite the ongoing war in Ukraine, PSI is bright and full of life once again, with 135 Panthers, double the number of family members, and over 50 committed educators ready to shape the future. This year, PSI is proud to announce a remarkable 25% growth in enrolment - a testament to the trust families continue to place in us to provide their children with a rigorous curriculum from the IB, even in these challenging times. We remain resolute in our mission to deliver education for a better tomorrow, for a future without war, and for the day when Ukraine achieves victory. In addition to this growth, PSI is thrilled to launch an exciting new partnership with the Children of Heroes Foundation, expanding our commitment to making education accessible to those who need it most. The partnership was officially inaugurated on 2 September 2024, with the signing of a memorandum of cooperation. The first student from the Foundation, Oleksandra, has already begun her journey with us. A bright and ambitious young girl with dreams of becoming a web designer, Oleksandra is not only gaining knowledge at PSI but also finding a community where she can grow, make new friends, and nurture her talents. This partnership marks the beginning of PSI’s “PSI 4 Good” scholarship initiative, through which we aim to extend educational opportunities to even more children of heroes, helping them pursue their dreams amidst the hardships of war. As our School Director, Trae Holland, shared, “PSI Kyiv is not only about providing education; we are committed to fostering the skills necessary for future success, particularly in these challenging times. We will do everything possible to support Oleksandra and her family on this path.” https://youtu.be/NsFKzDWP9lU?si=mra7sGwvpbq9mlYd PSI’s unwavering commitment to safety and quality was also a key focus at this year’s first Board of Governors retreat, which took place both in person in Kyiv and virtually. Led by Trae and our Board Chair, Peter Erben, the discussions emphasised our priority of maintaining a secure and enriching educational environment for all students. With such strong leadership and a clear vision for the future, Pechersk School International continues to be a place where everyone belongs - a place where education is provided not just for today, but for the future of Ukraine. As PSI Kyiv embarks on this new academic year, our school remains a beacon of hope, growth, and opportunity. Through partnerships like the one with the Children of Heroes Foundation and the tireless efforts of our community, we are building a brighter future for all.
