Media for Change: key takeaways from EBA Media Talks with The Ukrainians Media

04/ 07/ 2025
On 25 June, the European Business Association’s Marketing and Communications Committee held the second meeting of the EBA Media Talks format — this time with the editorial team of The Ukrainians Media. Taras Prokopyshyn, co-founder and CEO of The Ukrainians Media, shared the story of how the media outlet evolved — from a volunteer-run student blog in 2014 to a large independent media ecosystem today. The mission of The Ukrainians Media is to drive positive social change in Ukraine through the tools of journalism. The editorial team follows the principles of humanity and human-centredness, embraces slow media, and prioritises a longread-first format. The media’s target audience is the proactive youth of Ukrainian cities: representatives of the creative industries, civil society, IT, startups, and beyond. According to Taras, this very community serves as a multiplier of the medias impact on society. Kateryna Samboryk, COO of The Ukrainians Media, provided a closer look at the commercial projects and media formats they work with. She explained how the team approaches the creation of special projects across different channels — including text, video, photo, and audio. Kateryna also shared selected project cases, highlighting key ideas, promotion strategies, reach metrics, and overall impact. The EBA sincerely thanks The Ukrainians Media team, and Taras and Kateryna in particular, for their thoughtful presentation and open discussion on the current state and future of journalism in Ukraine. We also thank the event partner — Sense Hub Kyiv creative space. Let’s support independent Ukrainian media together!
