Strengthening the Competitiveness of Ukrainian Seaports: Business and Government Discuss Key Challenges and Solutions

  The South Ukraine Office of the European Business Association, together with members of the Coordinating Council and heads of профиль working groups and committees, held a working meeting with the Department of Maritime Economy, Transport Infrastructure and Communications of the Odesa Regional State Administration. Given the current challenges facing the port industry amid martial law, changing logistics routes, and the need to strengthen the resilience of the transport system, the parties focused on identifying practical solutions to preserve and enhance the competitiveness of Ukrainian seaports. The key topics discussed included: strengthening the security of port infrastructure under martial law; improving tariff policy; preserving the potential of the Danube ports; removing administrative barriers for port operators; increasing the transparency of state port control procedures; developing investment mechanisms. Particular attention was paid to the development of the port industry as a strategic component of Ukraine’s national logistics system, which requires balanced regulatory decisions and consideration of both public and business interests. Following the meeting, the participants agreed to continue their cooperation within relevant expert platforms to further elaborate the proposed initiatives and develop coordinated solutions for their implementation.
