Investment in action. Carlsberg Ukraine has unveiled a new production line that increases the production capacity of canned products by 80%

20/ 06/ 2023
Carlsberg Ukraine, the brewing company, has presented one of the largest investment projects of 2023—the new production line at the Kyiv Brewery. This line will optimize operations, meet consumer demand for canned products, and increase the brewerys capacity by 80%. Carlsberg Group has confirmed investments of 1.5 billion hryvnias for Ukraine in 2023, and now we can visually present the first result. Thanks to the new line, the production capacity of canned products has increased by 80%. Safety, excellent product quality, and high technological standards in the production process are our priorities. And the new production line is one of the effective tools that help us achieve these priorities. Carlsberg Group supports us all the way because it believes not only in our business but also in Ukraine as a whole, says Oleh Khaidakin, MD of Carlsberg Ukraine. The distinctive feature of this line is that it is built using state-of-the-art technologies, fully automated, and meets the highest safety requirements for both the personnel operating it and the products manufactured on it. It is a landmark event. It is a one of largest foreign investments in Ukraine in 2023. As Denmark’s ambassador I am proud to be present on this occasion.  Because the event today has a symbolic importance that goes far beyond the beverage industry in Ukraine. It is a sign that an important global player and industry leader, Carlsberg has faith in Ukraine and is ready to invest in Ukraine at a time, when Ukraine’s epic struggle against the Russian aggression is still ongoing. This fits very well into the close Danish-Ukrainian partnership at the political level. Denmark is one Ukraine’s closest partners. We can’t wait for peace to come. We need to start now, and we need to create concrete and tangible results. This is exactly what Carlsberg is doing here. What are you doing demonstrates that the struggle for Ukraine’s freedom is not only being fought on the battlefield. It is also being fought on the factory floor in the offices and in the fields. Keeping the economic wheels turning is crucial for Ukraine’s resilience. By this investment you are setting an example for other foreign investors. I hope that they will heed your example. Carlsberg is an icon in Denmark’s industrial development than has been known for its corporate social responsibility, long before that notion was invented. You have always been caring for your employees and for the communities. What you are doing in Ukraine is yet another example of this proud legacy, commented Ole Egberg Mikkelsen, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Denmark to Ukraine. Carlsberg Group started its operations in Ukraine in 1996 and has been one of the largest international investors in the FMCG sector year after year. Over the years, Carlsberg Ukraine has invested over 1 billion euros in the country. Carlsberg Ukraine employs over 1,300 people in breweries located in Kyiv, Lviv, and Zaporizhzhia, and it creates over 20,000 jobs in related industries such as the hospitality sector, agriculture, logistics, and more. The company consistently ranks among the top 25 largest taxpayers and top 50 best employers in Ukraine. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Carlsberg Ukraine has focused on three priorities: people, communities, and the preservation and development of its business. At the start of the war, the company suspended operations at all three breweries. In the spring, they gradually resumed the operation of the plants: Lviv Brewery restarted in March, initially producing only water for humanitarian needs, followed by the Kyiv plant in May, and the Zaporizhzhia plant in July. * * * Carlsberg Ukraine is a part of Carlsberg Group, one of the leading brewery groups in the world with a large portfolio of beer and other beverage brands. Carlsberg Ukraine includes breweries in Zaporizhia, Kyiv, and Lviv. The Carlsberg portfolio in Ukraine includes beer, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages of brands such as Lvivske, Carlsberg, Kronenbourg 1664, Arsenal, Kvas Taras, Somersby, Seth&Rileys Garage, and others. During the war in Ukraine, Carlsberg Group made the decision to cease operations in Russia and exit the market. Carlsberg Group, Carlsberg Foundation, and Tuborg Foundation donated 75 million Danish kroner to support Ukraine. Carlsberg Ukraine has implemented over 15 humanitarian projects. Since February 24, Carlsberg Ukraine has started producing drinking water and has delivered over 4 million liters to the regions. After the tragedy at the Kahovka Hydroelectric Power Station, it produces and delivers water daily to meet the needs of the population in the southern region of Ukraine, which faced a shortage of drinking water.
