13/ 03/ 2020
On March 11, the Government announced its intention to close certain border checkpoints in order to protect the lives and health of citizens against the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus. Yesterday, on March 12, the list of checkpoints that would suspend certain types of traffic was released. It was mentioned that the restrictions would apply to the operation of cargo seaports, as well as rail freight traffic at some major checkpoints. At the same time, the final approved list has not yet been published. The European Business Association informs the business that freight traffic through the checkpoints with the largest flows of goods, according to the CMU, will continue to work. At the same time, businesses are advised to choose the checkpoints that are the main connection points of Ukraine with other countries. In addition, it is reasonable to monitor measures taken by other countries against the spread of infection, as checkpoints can be closed not only by the Ukrainian side. Svitlana Mykhailovska. EBA Deputy Director for Advocacy. Of course, given the situation with coronavirus, the business community understands the necessity of tough, but important, precautionary measures to minimize the spread of COVID-19 in the country and to ensure proper safety for citizens. However, it is essential for the authorities and businesses to have an effective and constructive dialogue in this situation. Therefore, the business community still expects the publication of an approved list of exact checkpoints that will temporarily suspend their work, in order to understand how to plan further activities, and hopes that the key checkpoints will continue their operations. The European Business Association keeps monitoring the situation and will promptly inform businesses of any changes and updates.
