Online-Lecture: Irreversible changes or the ability to adapt? Analysis of climate change trends. Date: 27 May2025. Time: 11:00 12:30. Language: Ukrainian. Fee: free of charge for EBA members. Place: Will be online. Climate change is one of the most serious threats of our time, affecting all aspects of life, from the economy and agriculture to human health and ecosystems. The rapid changes in air temperature observed on our planet are evidence of a changing climate system. Changes in the thermal regime, frequency, and intensity of extreme temperatures have triggered significant changes not only in the atmosphere but also in the hydrosphere, cryosphere, lithosphere, and biosphere and have become a challenge for the sustainable development of society. Their intensity and speed are accelerating, causing increased human, financial, and environmental losses and worsening food security.  These changes are expected to intensify and require adaptation to new climate conditions. The lecture will contribute to a deeper understanding of irreversible climate change, identification of key risks for Ukraine and the world, and assessment of science-based approaches to adaptation. These are necessary to reduce the vulnerability of society and ensure its sustainable development in the context of climate system transformation.  EBA Management Development Centre team together with Vira Balabukh invite you to participate in the Online-Lecture: Irreversible changes or the ability to adapt? Analysis of climate change trends.  Speaker: Vira Balabukh, PhD in Geography, Head of the Department of Applied Meteorology and Climatology at the Ukrainian Research Hydrometeorological Institute of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine and the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. She is also a climate change expert, an expert on the UniCities project, and the Green Transformation and Climate Neutrality Center at the Academician Yuriy Bugay International Scientific and Technical University, with over 30 years of professional experience in the field of meteorology and climatology.    Questions for discussion:  Factors influencing the formation and change of climate.  Climate change trends across the globe and their specifics in Ukraine.  Key climate risks and environmental impact on the economy and human life.  The point of no return and what kinds of irreversible changes may be caused by climate change on the planet.  What does climate change adaptation mean, and why is it important?    What are the threats to which we can adapt?  Registration is obligatory. To become a participant, please, click the “Register” button. Only the users of the EBA site can register at the event. Should you have any questions, please, write at [email protected] or call (044) 496-06-01. Speakers. Vira Balabukh.
