EGIS Completes EIB-Financed Road Project in Georgia

23/ 11/ 2023
On October 28, a large-scale opening ceremony was held for 27 km of the E60 highway in Georgia, 13 km of which were made under the supervision of Egis. The Ubisa-Shorapani Road Section (F3), a critical project in Georgia, acts as a pivotal link connecting the Eastern and Western parts of the country. The Roads Department of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia commissioned this project.  Remarkably, the 13-kilometer part of the road that was constructed under Egis supervision was one of the most challenging sections. It also incorporates nine double tunnels (the longest one is 1640 m and it is the second biggest within the Rikoti section)  and 27 bridges (1362 m is the longest one and is the second biggest bridge in Georgia), making it a remarkable feat of engineering. The international E60 E70 route, originating from the French city of Blés, extends all the way to the Kyrgyzstan-China border. This strategic project takes its place within the extended Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) and the Middle Corridor, emphasizing its role in regional transportation enhancement. The Egis team invested relentless effort to ensure the projects success, marking a significant milestone in the development of Georgias infrastructure.  The opening ceremony took place in the village of Shorapani (at the project section - Ubisa Shorapani, implemented by Egis) garnered the participation of esteemed dignitaries, including the Prime Minister of Georgia, Mr. Irakli Garibashvili, the Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure, Mr. Irakli Karseladze, the Ambassador of the European Union (EU) to Georgia, H.E. Mr. Paweł Herczyński, and the Head of the European Investment Bank (EIB) Globals Regional Representation for the South Caucasus, Mr. Maciej Czura. From Egis the event was attended by Natasa Korica, South Caucasus Area Manager, Georgia Branch Director and in the same time the Project Team leader. We are proud to have successfully completed this significant road project in Georgia with the support of the European Investment Bank. This project represents a pivotal link in Georgias transportation network, and its completion marks a major milestone in enhancing the countrys infrastructure. The dedication and hard work of our team, as well as the collaboration with local authorities, have made this achievement possible. We look forward to the positive impact this roadway will have on Georgias connectivity and development. - Natasa Korica, South Caucasus Area Manager, Georgia Branch Director.
