EBA meets with the Head of the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection

The Retail Committee of the European Business Association held a meeting with Serhii Tkachuk, Head of the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection, and the Service’s experts to discuss a wide range of issues that businesses face on a daily basis. In particular, the discussion focused on the eFood electronic system, which aims to integrate several state registers into a single platform, simplifying access to services and reducing the administrative burden on businesses. Participants also addressed international cooperation, including the approval of certificates and the recognition of the animal disease zoning principle. Special attention was given to restrictions on imports of certain products from Spain due to African swine fever. During the meeting, a number of practical issues faced by companies were also considered, including: rules for applying identification marks on products of animal origin; specific aspects of packaging and repackaging dairy products; the status of dietary supplements registration procedures; the need to update certain legislative provisions in line with European approaches. In addition, representatives of the Association’s Retail Committee emphasised the importance of systematic measures to reduce the shadow economy in the retail sector and the need to ensure a level playing field. For consumers, this would mean reduced risks of purchasing counterfeit or unsafe products, access to official warranties, and greater shopping safety.
