European Business Association has launched the first online reuse center – Second Chance Bank

15/ 12/ 2021
On December 15, the European Business Association launched the first online reuse center in Ukraine – the Second Chance Bank. Now is the time to fill the platform with bids and needs. For example, if you have office furniture, appliances, workwear, utensils, office supplies, building materials, vehicles, electronics, etc. that have already served you or your business well and can now be useful to someone else, they can be placed on the platform as bids. Similarly, needs can already be placed - these are inquiries of organizations, charity funds that, for example, care for vulnerable groups of people. They can indicate what things they are in need of to achieve their social cause. All the rules of the platform are explained at the link.  The idea of the project arose in the summer - it was inspired by the book Zero Waste. We have been working on the idea for several months, and finally, it is completed. We really want to benefit both the environment and the planet by developing a culture of reusing things, changing habits and daily life towards greater eco-friendliness. After all, one mans trash is another mans treasure. And also dumping fewer things will be beneficial to the environment. Small steps can lead us to miracles. So, I invite everyone to join the platform, get acquainted with its possibilities, and do not hesitate to ask questions if there are any, said Anna Derevyanko, EBA Executive Director, presenting the Second Chance Bank platform. After the presentation, we had an inspiring dialogue with sustainable development ambassadors: Olena Frolyak, host and editor-in-chief of Fakty ICTV, UN Global Compact Ambassador for Environment in Ukraine, and Yulia Pelipas, founder of the brand better, Ambassador No More Plastic Foundation, and co-founders of the Second Chance Bank – CEOs of Vasil Kisil & Partners, Euroterminal LTD, BAYER Ukraine, BASF Ukraine. Thus, Olena shared her sustainable development story. Of course, she said, each of us can contribute a lot to the great deed. But to help the environment, political will for change is also very much needed. It is important to raise public awareness - and this should be done by the state in particular. For example, in Sweden, even in kindergartens they teach how to sort garbage. We should strive for that too! Being environmentally friendly is not boring, embarrassing, or bad. And it is pleasing to see the tremendous mind shift in the young generation. Surveys confirm that young people want to work in companies that focus and implement sustainable practices, said Yulia. She also talked about her own project – the better system for upcycling which is the best and most environmentally friendly way to manage things. Yulia also noted that it is not necessary to put all responsibility on consumers. Changes begin with each of us because this is the inner philosophy of a person and the change of his/her daily habits. The EBA Second Chance Bank is inspired and co-founded by Abbott Ukraine, Vasil Kisil & Partners, Euroterminal, BAYER in Ukraine, BASF Ukraine, EY Ukraine.
