Business is suffering from theft on the roads

10/ 10/ 2017
The European Business Association appealed to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine and the National Police to take urgent measures to improve the safety of Ukrainian highways. Of course, the problem of theft on the roads is not new - the Associations logistics committee regularly receives information on new cases of theft of goods during transportation. For several years now, we have been actively cooperating with government departments to improve the safety of roadside risk areas. However, the situation is still critical. Recently, small-scale theft of goods, especially on the move, is becoming more and more popular, but theft and theft of the entire cargo are taking place. Usually, all of them are organized by organized groups that have information about the track of a specific cargo and which coherently operate on the worked out schemes. Popular products - appliances, food, and hygiene products that the attackers can then resell. Most often, theft is carried out at night or in the event of a car moving uphill, in areas with a broken road. The scale of the problem can be imagined by looking at an infographic about the number of theft of goods, based on data GPU. However, in fact such cases are more times. Company members of the Committee pay special attention not only to the importance of disclosure of crimes, but also to the need for preventive measures. It is important to prevent the deterioration of the crime situation on the roads, as it leads to significant financial losses of logistics companies. To improve the state of affairs, the Association has developed its proposals for the prevention and reduction of theft of goods. We offer: 1) provide regular patrolling of potentially hazardous areas on highways of Ukraine; 2) install additional video surveillance cameras in motorways; 3) to install on the motorways a place for the maintenance of vehicles with appropriate protection. Law enforcers report that the concept of creating a road police, whose function is road safety, is currently being developed. Also, regulations for the introduction of automatic fixing of offenses are being developed. Regarding our proposals for the installation of stopping places, law enforcement agencies refer to the competence of Ukravtodor, according to which there is an insufficient level of financing from the state and local budgets By contrast, insurance companies responded promptly to the situation and nearly doubled their cargo insurance rates and imposed serious restrictions on compensation payments, which had a direct impact on the cost of freight. In this regard, the Association hopes to increase the attention of internal bodies to the problem of theft of goods and take the necessary measures in a short time.
