02/ 12/ 2019
On November 28, 2019, a meeting of the EBA Southern Ukrainian Office representatives with the newly appointed Head of Odesa Regional State Administration Maxym Kutsii was held. Thus, during the meeting, the business community once again emphasized the importance of focusing on priorities – the basic systemic things that will help the business to develop and to move the country forward. Kateryna Morozova, EBA Odesa Office Team Leader paid attention to the importance of creating an effective basis for a real fight against corruption, the need for a legitimate system of justice and reliable law enforcement bodies,  establishing equal rules of play to make legal business more competitive. Because unequal regulations bring to unequal rules and shadow economy. In addition, the main focus was on infrastructure, customs and tax issues and the need to develop labor force, constraint of which is not only addressed by businesses in the region, but also in the country in general, etc. At the same time, it should be noted that by analyzing the Programme for Government, in general,  business supports the chosen direction, prescribed steps and tendency of development. For the most part, these issues are within the competence of national authorities, while at the same time, some aspects also concerned to regions. However, it is important to understand how the prescribed strategy will be realized on practice. In turn, Maxym Kutsii mentioned that the basic principle of the Regional State Administration team is zero tolerance for corruption, development and building of open and honest relations between the RSA and business. The new Head outlined the basic vector for the development of the region and asked the entrepreneurs about the key problems which they face in daily activities. EBA member-companies highlighted the problems with weight control on the roads of the region, the need to restore the road surface, ensure unimpeded entry into the territory of the Odesa port, improve the comfort of air passengers and the importance of attracting new destinations. In addition, the further development of tourism potential, strengthening environmental security, effective waste management, the introduction of land market and improve the investment attractiveness of the region are also important. We hope that the proposals announced by the business will be included to the regional development programmes. The EBA Southern Ukrainian Office thanks Maxym Kutsii for transparency and willingness to support Ukrainian and foreign business in the region. We look forward to further dialogue to develop a quality business climate in the region. For reference: The event was attended by producers of wine, oil, shoes, heating equipment, the largest grain traders and container terminals, shipping lines, engineering, construction and freight forwarding companies, representatives of the financial, legal and consulting sectors, waste managment companies, etc.
